Job Summary

The Manager, Strategic Market Planning is responsible for day-to-day support of critical development decisions in targeted geographies for Papa John’s using a variety of data and analytics to drive recommendations. The candidate is responsible for preparing in-house market research studies and reports using GIS applications and primary research methods.  The candidate will analyze and create presentation materials for various projects associated with efforts to expand our store network.  The candidate is responsible for having a deep understanding of demographic, competitor, and other related industry trends. The candidate will define trade areas and analyze the influences that impact the performance of our locations that are key to business success.  The candidate will define and understand individual stores (or group of stores in a geography) that do not perform to expectations.  This role is responsible for strategic market planning recommendations and analysis that is critical to Papa John’s meeting business objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct various market research studies and spatial reports; provide strategic analysis concerning area creation, overlaps and voids, business generation and cannibalization  

  • Create, compile and review location/site research submittals to ensure they meet criteria and present to Development leadership  

  • Research, coordinate, and evaluate opportunities utilizing demographic data as needed for locations being considered for new stores, new markets, existing stores and existing markets using geographic information system software (GIS) and other primary research methods  

  • Guide projects with internal and external sources to obtain pertinent information needed to support site research and site presentations. Be familiar with all aspects of each proposal  

  • Collaborate with Finance to create financial proforma income statement templates for new and existing store locations, remodels, expansions, and other special requests  

  • Support data gathering and transformation into systems including customer data, competitor data, demographic data, traffic data, and more; build expertise in internal site management systems (site intel)  

  • Assist with strategic recommendations for growth opportunities, relocations and related activities based on comprehensive findings from reporting and time-in-market; proactively identify and complete special projects and methodology development.  

  • As needed, travel to existing/new markets and proposed sites, ICSC-sponsored events and various additional conferences/seminars related to market research, geographic information systems (GIS) and other industry related topics
