Paralegal

THIS IS A CORPORATE POSITION

SUMMARY
 

Provide expert support to the Legal Team in the areas of marketing, intellectual property, data privacy, and technology.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinating and receiving signatures for documents and materials
  • Reviewing, proofreading, and formatting contracts
  • Providing administrative support for documents, activities, and meetings related to marketing, intellectual property, data privacy, and technology,
  • Working with other members of the legal team on special projects and initiatives
  • Work directly with and communicate legal issues succinctly to attorneys and business partners and anticipate follow-up needs
     
  • Marketing
     
  • Maintain legal guidelines for social marketing, disclaimers, and advertising
  • Provide ongoing support for marketing and advertising activities, including review of advertising, packaging, marketing, and promotions to ensure compliance with company policy and legal requirements
  • Draft sweepstakes rules
  • Registering and bonding campaigns for sweepstakes and charitable co-ventures in states that require
     
  • Intellectual Property
     
  • Create, update and maintain trademark opposition and prosecution charts
  • Update and maintain trademark registrations throughout the world
  • Collaborate with in-house and outside trademark attorneys to manage an international trademark portfolio
  • Assist in trademark prosecution
  • Assist with cease and desist letters

  • Global Privacy

  • Provide general support for the data protection program under the direction of internal privacy counsel
  • Conduct preliminary data privacy research and analysis, and assist with research, drafting, reviewing, processing, tracking, and other tasks for projects related to global data protection laws, regulations, decisions, opinions, and other regulatory guidance, on routine and as-needed basis
  • Maintain repository of key documentation to demonstrate the company's compliance with global privacy laws
  • Routinely monitor and track all incoming submissions and requests for the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) processes
  • Support internal privacy counsel with the company's Privacy by Design approach in daily working practices, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders to assist in ensuring that all documents, related processes, and deliverables are in accordance with the company's Code of Conduct, Privacy Policy, Procedures, and Standards, applicable privacy laws and industry-leading frameworks
  • Maintain and coordinate all changes to the company's Global Privacy Policy and related privacy policies, standards, and processes, as well as the company's public Global Privacy Statements, including supporting activities such as translations, formatting/versioning, and coordinating with key stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of key presentations, reporting, or other materials to support the Global Privacy Legal Team
  • Familiarity with global privacy principles, laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA), terminology, and trends is preferred

  • Project management training or similar skills would be considered an asset
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of Federal and State rules and regulations in relation to data privacy, technology, intellectual property (especially copyright and trademark), and/or advertising law would be considered an asset. Experience in any regulatory compliance field strongly preferred.
     

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree required. 
  • 2-3 years experience
  • Paralegal degree and experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The team member frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The team member is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, repetitive use (or motion) of arms and hands, bend and stoop, and lift up to 10 pounds.
