Principal Engineer (IT)

THIS IS A CORPORATE POSITION

Papa John’s is seeking an experienced, software engineer/architect to join our IDS team working 100% remote, supporting Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and HR functions.  This individual will be an instrumental leader as we embark on a technical transformation and modernization that will take place over the next 3-4 years.  

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will ultimately be responsible for driving initiatives from inception to completion through the entire software lifecycle including design, development, testing, and launch.  You will lead other team members and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with quality.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead other software engineers, analysts, and quality assurance (QA) engineers
  • Demonstrate expertise around modern software design and development
  • Identifies product enhancements to create a better experience for the end users 
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architects to creates meaningful architecture diagrams
  • Contributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive automation and engineering empowerment 
  • Defines service level objectives to measure their reliability in production
  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and testing 
  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, and alerting to identify issues and address proactively  
  • Create foundational code elements that can be reused
  • Works with other product teams to create API specifications and contracts for shared data  
  • Proactively reviews the performance and capacity of all aspects of production: code, infrastructure, data, and message processing

Support and Enablement: 

  • Lead and encourage cross-team collaboration
  • Build and grow the skillsets of the more junior engineers
  • Provides application support for software running in production (as needed)
  • Works with vendors and open-source community to help identify and implement feature enhancements in software products 
  • Conducts technical interviews of job applicants and contractors to evaluate their skills
  • Action oriented and ready to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm
  • Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances

Education, Experience, Skills:

  • BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or similar technical field of study
  • 8+ years’ experience in software development and engineering
  • 3+ years’ technical leadership experience
  • Demonstrates team leader abilities with a proven record of successful delivery of products
  • Proficient in a cloud computing platform and the associated automation patterns they provide (preferably Google Cloud and Kubernetes)
  • Proficient in modern microservice-based architectures and methodologies
  • Proficient in production systems design including High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance, Efficiency, and Security
  • Proficient in Object-Oriented programming such as Java/J2EE
  • Proficient in Messaging technologies such as JMS and Pub/Sub
  • Proficient in Relational Database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL
  • Experience with Logging Analytics tools like Splunk, Kibana/ELK
  • Experience with CI/CD using Jenkins
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
