VP, North America Direct Procurement

THIS IS A CORPORATE POSITION

As the VP, North America Direct Procurement, you will lead the North American Food and Packaging procurement department to develop and ensure a stable, diverse and cost-effective network of suppliers are executing to Papa John’s high quality and service standards and setting our restaurants up for success. Lead the corporate hedge program and sourcing strategy to provide food cost outlook and minimize market volatility. This is a cross-functional Sr. Leadership position working closely with Research & Development (R&D), Quality Assurance (QA), North America Operations (Restaurants and QCCs), International Supply Chain, Franchisees, Marketing and Finance. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally to identify food, packaging, and supply needs of North American restaurants to execute daily operations and evolving promotions calendar.
  • Utilize internal and external resources to identify broad and diverse set of suppliers for each RFP bid to ensure competitive and strategic cost-effective allocation of network needs.
  • Develop SOP’s to manage procurement function and ensure department objectives are met (RFP Goals; Bid process, supplier performance scorecard; etc.)
  • Lead negotiation of all contracts to meet bid objectives.  Ensure all contracts are following standard terms working with legal and finance and all category suppliers follow a consistent and transparent cost formula.
  • Actively support Research & Development innovation involving the North America Supplier database.
  • Ensure suppliers are performing at expected quality and service standards throughout the year by partnering cross-functionally to identity issues as they arise. Implement & evaluate an annual Supplier Scorecard (assessment tool) results across North America Supplier base.
  • Lead and manage the national beverage supplier program.
  • Partner with International Supply Chain on global supply contracts and interdependencies to ensure optimization of US dependent international supply, including US export operations and vendor direct requirements
  • Develop and Implement Strategic Supply Chain contingency plan template (primary and secondary supplier network).
  • Work with outside experts and internal SMEs to keep the company aware of key commodity market movements that impact the food basket and lead the hedge/contract buy program to minimize volatility.
  • Provide food cost outlook monthly working with finance, suppliers, and outside experts to ensure company has a view of the food basket updates through a robust forecast process.
  • Develop and report on department performance throughout the year.

Functional Skills:

  • Strong expertise in analysis of P&L’s, financial viability of potential suppliers, food cost models and supplier’s cost formulas.
  • Expertise in North America tariffs, business laws, cultures, and customs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, Lotus Notes, PeopleSoft, and BusinessMap Pro (or equivalent).
  • Strong negotiating skills and history of leading cross-functional teams and projects

Education, Experience & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in North America Business desired.
  • Experienced with North America restaurant business – preferably franchised QSR.
  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in North America supply chain
  • Canada supply chain experience preferred
  • Strategic sourcing / negotiation certificates preferred
