The Yard Switcher will be expected to move trailers around the yard using a tractor-trailer. Additionally, the yard switcher will be expected work in the warehouse and be a backup driver for our delivery route drivers. This position requires a CDL-A .

Pay starts at $24/hour 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maneuver the vehicle safely at various speeds and/or in difficult situations including, but not limited to inclement weather and/or in areas of tight (limited) maneuvering.
  • Maintain all required records for compliance with state and federal regulations, including driver’s logs, records of fuel purchases and mileage trip reports and ensure all required shipment documentation (manifest, invoices, delivery invoices or shipping orders) are available for inspection.
  • Ensuring the timely movement of trailers in and out of the docks on-site at the QCC
  • Performing pre- and post-shift equipment safety inspections
  • Hooking/unhooking trailers
  • Lifting/opening trailer doors
  • Sliding trailer tandems when necessary
  • Safely entering/exiting yard tractor numerous times per shift
  • Safely maneuvering equipment with good backing skills
  • Comply with all federal, state, local regulations and laws (of the areas driven through) and company policies for the safe operation of commercial motor vehicle.
  • Trips to Penske for PM's or other related issues.
  • Local Back hauls
  • Miscellaneous trailer/tractor maintenance ( Strip curtains , load locks , etc. )
  • Yard organization
  • Attend all mandatory QCC Delivery Specialist meetings.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • Ability to read and/or understand written and/or verbal policy, instruction and direction in English required.
  • Must be able to perform mathematics with general ability to handle receipts, invoices, read maps; read and understand road signs and maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) logs.
  • Must have working knowledge of DOT regulations concerning safe driving, hours or service, maintenance, inspections and service.
  • Knowledge of on-board tracking systems preferred.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid CMV and Class A CDL certifications required.
  • Acceptable MVR required.
  • A minimum of 1 years experience with valid CDL within the past 3 years 
  • Military experience may be used to fulfill the experience requirement provided the candidate’s primary   Military Operating Specialty (MOS) was that of a truck driver operating vehicles similar to the type of equipment utilized by Trans Papa Logistics.  (DD 214 will be requested).
  • Graduation from commercial driving or technical school is desired.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license must be issued by the resident state of the driver.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Must be able to be on call as needed.
  • Frequent bending for placement of wheel chocks

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to sit and drive safely while remaining alert for long periods of time (up to 11 hours).  Perform frequent bending, squatting and lifting of weight up to 60 pounds overhead with no assistance.  Must be able to accomplish duties in different outdoor weather conditions.  Must be able to load and move up to 400 lbs. with the use of material handling devices (hand carts, etc.).  Must be able to stand and walk for long durations upon multiple surfaces.  Must pass DOT required medical physical.
