Job Summary
The Design & Equipment Manager is responsible for managing design projects from conceptual development through execution. He/she is responsible for developing construction documents and implementing the documents across prototype, in-line, conversion, new construction and renovation restaurant projects for Papa John’s corporate and franchisee locations. The candidate will ensure the construction drawing designs, brand standards, and details are coordinated throughout the set. This role will manage multiple life-cycle design projects for Papa John’s restaurants/stores.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage multiple projects from initial design concept through permitting, budget approval and final completion
Responsible for managing consultant professional fees, schedules and budgets
Organize and coordinates all aspects of design using both internal and external resources
Interface with other teams (Operations, Real Estate, Property Management, Site Development, Construction, Purchasing, etc.) to adapt Brand design standards to specific sites
Provides schematic plans, elevations, renderings and design development details; highly efficient at producing design development drawings
Reviews surveys, site plans and existing conditions to create “as built” plans with the purpose of develop project-specific design solutions to implement in test fits
Review construction documents for accuracy, coordination and design intent
Coordinate planning/permitting functions with construction manager and external consultants.
Approves shop drawings, reviews proposals of proposed FF&E
Stay abreast of evolving design and construction means and methods through continuing education programs and other informational sources
Responsible for putting test fits together and to coordinate with KES (Kitchen Equipment Suppliers) quotes and specifications per store
Coordinate with finish vendors, millwork vendors, signage vendors, and specialty suppliers to maintain design intent and brand standards
Create and maintain accurate AutoCAD drawings, to develop site specific test fits
Education, Experience & Certifications
5-7 years of restaurant related design experience
Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture or related field, licensed design professional preferred
Restaurant or Quick Service Restaurant )QSR) experience preferred
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (required)
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro
Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, and Revit experience preferred
Smartsheets experience preferred

Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate is a highly technical design professional who can independently produce and review construction documents, coordinate multiple consultants and vendors, identify conflicts before construction, and successfully manage restaurant development projects from concept through completion while maintaining brand standards, schedule, quality, and budget. This individual must be comfortable serving as the primary point of contact for architects, MEP consultants, equipment suppliers, finish vendors, signage vendors, franchisees, and internal stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle.
